Responsibility:

  • Designed and delivered end-to-end UX flow for EV plug and charge

  • Collaborated with product owners, researchers, and tech leads to define the industrial guideline and standard for EV charging

  • Defined and drove the design strategy, shaping the core flows for provisioning (adding card to the EV) and charging flow

Cross-functional partners:

  • 3 product groups (Token, Authentication, EV charging)

  • Engineers

  • External vendors and clients

  • Content design

  • UX research​

The Design Journey
Before diving into design, I joined several EV drivers on charging trips to observe their behaviors and understand their real-world experiences.
Key Findings

  • EV Payment Setup was complicated and highly technical

  • EV Drivers use a myriad of apps across charging operators

  • Multiple frictions points with charging and dispute

  • Mobile experience is part of the mental model for EV drivers
